About

David Schatsky

I’m David Schatsky. I am a consultant and adviser to businesses on a range of topics, from clean tech markets to corporate sustainability best practices to business strategy in the Internet and information technology markets.

Having spent almost a decade as an analyst and senior executive at JupiterResearch, a leading research and advisory firm focused on Internet business, I’m an expert in business strategy, industry analysis and market research. Besides my expertise in clean tech, alternative energy and sustainability, I have expertise in the digital media, marketing, advertising and commerce markets and the technology stack that enable them. My years building complex IT systems in the financial services industry are the basis for my expertise in systems analysis and design, requirements analysis, and enterprise software.

I was president of JupiterResearch until we sold our company to Forrester Research in the summer of 2008. I led the global research organization at Jupiter from 2003-2006. Before that I was an analyst and research director, focusing on e-commerce infrastructure, Web site technologies and operations, and online business models and processes in digital media, marketing and advertising. I joined Jupiter before its initial public offering in 1999 and saw it through several acquisitions and two sales.

Jupiter recruited me away from a career as a systems consultant on Wall Street, where over a period of several years I built trading, allocation, analysis and reporting systems for clients such as JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, UBS, WestLB and Merrill Lynch.  Part of that time I was an independent consultant, part I was working in the capital markets group Cambridge Technology Partners and part at Napa Group, a boutique consultant.

For a couple of years I worked in international business development for an Italian software company based in the seaside town of Viareggio. Before that I worked at artificial intelligence pioneer Symbolics, joining a year before its IPO and helping to expand its business internationally, serving as lead technical marketing engineer and traveling to dozens of countries to support our subsidiaries and distributors. Symbolics was the first company to register a .com domain name.

I studied international economics and U.S. foreign policy at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins and computer science at Tufts University.

I played trumpet in a New York City salsa band for 6 years and still enjoy playing when I have the opportunity. I live in New York City with my wife, two children, two cats and a Tibetan Terrier.
